Of Montreal (stylized as of Montreal) was formed in Athens (Georgia) in 1996 by Kevin Barnes and its named after a failed romance he had with a woman from Montreal. He recruited Derek Almstead and Bryan Poole and the trio released their debut album (Cherry Peel) in 1997. They released two more albums (The Bird Who Ate the Rabbit's Flower and The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy) after which Bryan left the band. The band’s been through numerous line up changes over the years and currently consists of Kevin Barnes (singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter), Clayton Rychlik (drums, keys, guitar, and bass), Jojo Glidewell (keys), Davey Pierce (bass), and Bennett Dean Lewis (keys and guitar). Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock and psychedelic pop. They’ve had a stellar career with 13 studio albums, 1 live album, 7 compilation albums, 9 EPs, and 26 singles. Their latest album (White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood) comes out in March 2018. Band members are also involved in various side projects with Bright Eyes, Marshmallow Coast, Inkwell, Sondre Lerche, Pillar Point, Born Ruffians, Caribou, Yeasayer, Eleanor Friedberger, Circulatory System, Elf Power, and many other renowned bands and artists.
