Margo Price, Illinois’ sensational country music artist is bringing her signature sounds to Crescent Ballroom!
Margo Rae Price was born in 1983 in Buffalo Prairie and is a country music singer-songwriter. She began her musical journey by playing the piano and singing in a church choir. She dropped out of school in 2003 and moved to Nashville to pursue a singing career. While there she met bassist Jeremy Ivey and the pair soon formed the group Buffalo Clover and went on to release 3 independent albums between 2010 and 2013. After Buffalo Clover split, Margo formed a band (Margo and the Pricetags) with a revolving line-up that sometimes featured future alt-country star Sturgill Simpson. She cites Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton as her main influences and her voice has been compared to Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. The Nashville Scene (an alternative news weekly) has noted that Margo often writes about “life's cruel twists and unjust turns” and that “her matter-of-factness conveys an enduring humility”. She financed a solo album in 2015 and it made its way into the hands of Jack White (lead singer and guitarist of The White Stripes). Impressed, he signed her onto his record label and released the album (titled Midwest Farmer's Daughter) in March 2016.
