Alvvays, Canada’s sensational indie rock and indie pop artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Crescent Ballroom!
The band was formed in Toronto in 2011 and it currently consists of Molly Rankin (vocals and guitar), Kerri MacLellan (keyboards), Alec O'Hanley (guitar), and Brian Murphy (bass guitar). Their musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegazing), indie pop (a subgenre of alternative/indie rock originating in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and differing from indie rock to the extent that it’s more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst free), and jangle pop (subgenre of rock music that originated in the 1960s and features trebly, arpeggiated picking - typically on chiming electric twelve string guitars or 6 string guitars, often employing a capo and chord inversions - together with straightforward song structures). They cite the Magnetic Fields, Teenage Fanclub, Dolly Mixture, the Smiths, Celine Dion, Pavement, the Primitives, and Oasis as their main influences. They’ve had a stellar career with 1 studio album, 5 singles, and their latest album (Antisocialites) comes out on 8th September 2017.
